The Teaching
The word "Gender" derives from the Latin root meaning "to beget; to procreate; to generate; to create; to produce." It has a broader meaning than "Sex," which refers merely to physical distinction. Gender means "relating to generation or creation."
This Principle works ever in the direction of generation, regeneration, and creation. Everything and every person contains both Elements or Principles. Every Male thing has the Female Element; every Female contains the Male Principle. No creation - physical, mental, or spiritual - is possible without this Principle.
Mental Gender
The Masculine Principle of Mind corresponds to the Objective Mind, Conscious Mind, Voluntary Mind, Active Mind. The Feminine Principle corresponds to the Subjective Mind, Sub-conscious Mind, Involuntary Mind, Passive Mind.
The "I" represents the Masculine Principle of Mental Gender - the aspect of Being, the projector of Will energy. The "Me" represents the Feminine Principle - the aspect of Becoming, the mental womb capable of generating mental offspring of all sorts and kinds.
Practical Application
The tendency of the Feminine Principle is always in the direction of receiving impressions, while the Masculine Principle is always in the direction of giving out or expressing. The Feminine Principle conducts the work of generating new thoughts, concepts, ideas, including imagination. The Masculine Principle contents itself with the work of the Will.
Strong individuals manifest the Masculine Principle of Will. Instead of living upon impressions made by others, they dominate their own minds by Will, obtaining desired mental images, and moreover dominate the minds of others likewise.
